Every year, the Ministry of Culture awards the title of Italian Capital of Culture to a city that presents an innovative, sustainable programme with a focus on quality, young people and local impact. The appointment is also a firm opportunity to launch regeneration projects, strengthen the city’s identity and expand the cultural and artistic offer.

The year 2025 marks the beginning of the journey towards Pordenone 2027. In recent months, the municipality has set up the Capital Direction, the body that will guide the project, and has initiated the first actions planned for this year. Partnerships have been set up with local businesses to develop the initiatives of the dossier and methods are being defined for the candidature of new projects. At the same time, guidelines have been prepared for the use of the “Verso Pordenone 2027” and “Pordenone 2027” logos. There is also a special focus on the involvement of local, regional and national institutions supporting this journey.

“Pordenone 2027. Città che sorprende” [surprising city] is the title chosen for the candidature as Italian Capital of Culture. It showcases the identity of a city often perceived as a place of passage, but capable of preserving a surprising cultural and artistic heritage of great value. Pordenone is an area where tradition and innovation live side by side, producing quality cultural proposals. In 2027 this potential will be shown to its fullest extent, with a varied and innovative programme to astound residents and visitors alike.

To offer all cultural, social organisations in the area the opportunity to contribute to Pordenone 2027, the Capital Direction has provided new application methods for projects not included in the dossier “Pordenone 2027. Città che sorprende”. Three expressions of interest will be launched between autumn 2025 and early 2026. The Pordenone – Verso Capitale Italiana della Cultura 2027 logo will complement the preparations from 2025 to 2026 and will be replaced by the definitive Pordenone – Capitale Italiana della Cultura 2027 logo in 2027. The owner of the logo is the Municipality of Pordenone, which may authorise its third-party use for events and initiatives that are consistent with the project objectives or related to the application. Authorisation is granted for participating activities taking place in the municipal area or in the municipalities of the former Province, as well as for specific initiatives supported by the Administration. Authorisation must be requested from the Culture Office of the Municipality of Pordenone using the appropriate form available on the website.
