The training programme promoted by the Ministry of Culture and the National School for Cultural Heritage and Activities comes to a close in Pordenone
The fourth edition of Cantiere Città comes to a close in Pordenone. The training programme, promoted by the Ministry of Culture – Department for Cultural Activities, Service VI of the former General Secretariat – together with the National School for Cultural Heritage and Activities, is dedicated to the finalist cities competing for the title of Italian Capital of Culture. Its aim is to strengthen their planning capacities and to secure a future for the proposals developed as part of their candidacy.
In the City Council Chamber, Mayor Alessandro Basso and Councillor for Culture Alberto Parigi welcomed representatives from the other finalist cities – Aliano (MT), Brindisi, Gallipoli (LE), La Spezia, Pompeii (NA), Reggio Calabria, Sant’Andrea di Conza (AV) and Savona – officially opening the two days of training sessions, held on 1 and 2 December.
Over the course of the two days, the city representatives were guided by experts from the National School for Cultural Heritage and Activities in a dialogue on the most effective tools and intervention models for using culture a driver of local development.
Mayor Alessandro Basso said: “Hosting the final stage of Cantiere Città here in Pordenone is an important step not only for our city, but for the entire journey we are embarking on together with a view to 2027. The title of Italian Capital of Culture is a goal that still lies ahead, but one we are preparing for methodically, with the daily commitment of administrators, technicians, professionals and a lively network of local organisations. Over the next few days, we will have a rich and concrete discussion with the finalist cities, focused on the sustainability of cultural projects and on culture’s ability to generate lasting development. Today, culture can no longer be considered an optional extra: it is a strategic lever for local identity, for citizens’ quality of life, and for economic growth. For this reason, we believe in a planning-based approach, detailed analysis, public-private partnerships and a vision capable of transforming ideas into stable, solid and measurable processes.
The work we will be carrying out in Pordenone over these two days – from the economic evaluation of projects to regulatory innovation and the most effective governance models – represents a fundamental building block towards being fully prepared for 2027. Our city is proving that it has the tools, skills and determination needed to face this challenge with clarity and courage. I would like to extend special thanks to Councillor for Culture Alberto Parigi, who is leading this process with great commitment, and to the entire administrative team of the Municipality of Pordenone, whose efficiency and expertise align perfectly with this challenging task. Without their daily dedication, it would not be possible to sustain a project of this scale. I would also like to thank the Ministry of Culture and the National School of Cultural Heritage and Activities for choosing Pordenone as the final host city for this edition of Cantiere Città. It is both a recognition of the path we have taken and an encouragement to push forward with even greater determination. The road to 2027 is open, and we will travel it with the same spirit that has guided these past few days: collaboration, sharing and a vision of culture as a common good. Pordenone is ready, and proud to be so.”
Cantiere Città represents an important opportunity to ensure continuity for the cultural proposals developed by cities during their candidacy for the title of Italian Capital of Culture. Through this programme, the Ministry of Culture and the National School of Heritage and Cultural Activities strengthen cities’ planning skills and support them in turning their visions into concrete actions, preserving the ideas and collaborations already initiated.
