Mayor of Catania Enrico Trantino visits Pordenone

14.11.2025

This morning, Pordenone welcomed the Mayor of Catania, Enrico Trantino, on an official visit in view of the Sicilian city’s candidacy for Italian Capital of Culture 2028.

It was a warm and engaging meeting, designed to share visions, projects and best practices between two cities that believe in culture as a driver for growth.

During his tour of the city centre, Trantino described Pordenone as ‘a perfect and surprising city’.

The Mayor of Pordenone, Alessandro Basso, warmly welcomed his Sicilian counterpart’s words, stating: ‘We are proud that those who arrive from elsewhere immediately recognise the care with which we look after our city. Cleanliness and urban decorum are not minor details: they are the calling card of a community that works.’

Basso went on to highlight the administration’s commitment in view of the major challenge of 2027, the year in which Pordenone will be Italian Capital of Culture: ‘The 2027 title is not just a cultural recognition, it is a responsibility. It requires us to coordinate all services and all municipal departments to offer a welcoming, liveable city, ready to host an unprecedented flow of initiatives and visitors.’

During the meeting, the Catania delegation presented its candidacy dossier for 2028, which contains several points of official collaboration between Catania and Pordenone. These include strengthening synergies between Palazzo del Fumetto in Pordenone and Etna Comics, one of Italy’s most important events in the comics and entertainment sector.

On this point, Basso added: ‘The collaboration between our cities will not end with this visit. Culture, creativity and shared planning are the best way to build a stronger Italy. Pordenone is ready to play its part and support Catania on its path to 2028.’

The Councillor for Culture, Alberto Parigi, concluded: ‘I would like to highlight two key aspects that emerged from this visit. The first is that Catania’s dossier expressly mentions Pordenone, bearing witness to a concrete and constructive collaboration between our cities. The second concerns the specific interest shown in the world of comics and in Pordenone’s Palazzo del Fumetto. This synergy demonstrates how cooperation between territories can open up new development prospects for both communities.’

The visit concluded with an institutional exchange on the next shared steps and a mutual commitment to continuing the dialogue that has now begun.
